Linksys RE1000 Wireless-N Range Extender/Bridge 3.6 5 42 42

Works as advertise but unstable. Sensitive antenna. I bought this to replace my old WRE54G Wireless-G range expander. It's not damage but getting old, occasionally disconnect and requires restart. Initial setup of RE1000 is disappointing, keep disconnect. Waited months before Linksys upgrades firmware (Feb 2012) only it works. Compare to WRE54G I say RE1000 antenna design is epic failure. It is very sensitive. Even few meters, the performance varies largely. Can't hide it behind LCD TV or cupboard as RE1000 won't be able to detect a strong signal, whereas iPhone app still detect strong signal in those area. The software setup only works with latest Linksys routers, mine is Cisco WAP4410N. The web setup isn't difficult, but once setup there's no way to get back the web setup until a hard reset. The bridge mode works seamlessly with my old WDTV Live. It does create a problem. The WiFi become unstable, keep disconnect. Unplug the cable and WiFi performance back to normal. The last thing I want to complain is there's no LED indicator. It's hard to tell if it's working or not. The only LED is the CISCO logo, which only indicate it's ON. Even if it fails, the LED still lights up. At least they make it blinks. Will I recommend to a friend? Well, cross brands wireless products normally don't work well. So it's best to get the same brand. My house is large and the power switch box is separated between two floors which render me unable to use Powerline Homeplug. So unless you plan to do it in the old fashion wired the whole house method, you have no choice but to go for RE1000 and pray CISCO engineers will update the firmware in near future. 3/17/12

new look, same quality and price. This device performs slightly better than it's predecessor, I will admit. But it STILL has the unexplainable fluctuations in connectivity. Some days it works great, other days it's as though it has a bad mood and wants to drive you towards insanity. I guess moisture content in the air? I seriously don't get it. I made decision to just buy a 2nd router and bridge them on separate channels for interference avoidance. Works great, never buying one of these again, until the price is doubled - for then perhaps it will contain some worthy electronics inside. Setup of device was massively easier than it's predecessor. No more resetting device, forcing dns and ips, hardline configuration - no more. Wonderful setup. I bought it brand new, just like the last 3 of the older version. Don't understand why these things are so darn finicky as they are used over... say a week span. 3/12/12

Fails at MAC Filtering Apparently this device does not directly support MAC filter to work with the WRT54G2. Will not remain a part of my network. 3/4/12

Where is Dual-Band??? I recieved the RE1000 as a gift and I am going to return it because it can't do 5 GHz....for 80 bucks? Is this 2012? My 2 - 3 year old E3000 supports both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz. So guess what? Of course any wireless devices that my family uses that can connect at 5.0 GHz is connecting to the E3000 at 5.0 GHz...our laptops, TiVo Wireless Adapter...etc. etc. We live in a Townhome community and there are 15 to 20 wireless networks in range. Our wireless network was slow running at 2.4 GHz. but pretty good at 5.0 Ghz. We'd rather have faster speeds and a lesser signal strength than the opposite at 2.4 GHz. Come on, our Tivo adapter can do 5.0 GHz. but a new device designed to extend an entire wireless network cannot? I have been waiting for LinkSys to release a product like this for sometime...Guess I have to wait longer. Very disappointing... 2/26/12

RE1000 We are a Mac family and are using a AT&T Motorola DSL modem/wireless-router . Needed too boost the signal to the other side of our house and so far it seems too be doing just that ! Didn't have too do the 192. stuff! Very easy to install about ( about 10-15minutes). I am cheap so I got the refurbished one for $59.95! ( looks brand new ! ) Very pleased with it ! 2/11/12

Not Dependable for VPN connectivity…..drops If you don’t have 5 green bars of Signal Strength and a minimum of 4 green bars of Signal Quality as seen on the Status > WLAN Statics page don’t plan on connecting seamlessly to your corporate network via VPN. I’ve run the gamut of over the last few months trying to keep the RE from dropping. I’ve upgraded firmware, changed channels, device locations, static and auto IP settings, tweaked my E4200 settings including MTU et al and still have an occasional drop. Geez what happened Cisco, makes we wish I’d never upgraded from my ROCK SOLID WRT54G and WRE54G. 1/25/12

Don't bother if you have an old Linksys Router I spent a couple of hrs trying to set it up and even when I changed a lot of the settings on my "N" network (SSID broadcasting enable, added Extender's MAC to my filter and changed security modes) I never get it to work. I have an old Linksys WRT54G V.6 which was working flawless, the support page suggests to upgrade the firmware to V 2.x.y.z but the latest posted is 1.08.01!!. Now I need to downgrade my router's firmware as this new version won't let me use AES with WPA PSK. On it's way back to B-Buy. 1/25/12

Works well but is overpriced I like the simplicity of it, and it works well. Plug limits where the device can be plugged in without a pigtail. 1/13/12
